2007 Camp Information

Highwood Small Fry is offering a 6-week Instructional Camp for 9, 10, 11 and 12 year olds on Saturdays at the Highland Park High School.  Small Fry camp focuses on individual skills and drills, with an emphasis on dribbling, ball handling, passing, shooting and defense.  Guest coaches from local high schools and colleges will also assist our volunteer Small Fry coaching staff.

Camp runs from October 13th to November 17th.  When camp is over, select individuals will be asked to tryout for Highwood’s Rookie and Varsity traveling teams.  Travel program starts with practices in January.  They play 6 to 7 tournament weekends, and then end with the Varsity team traveling to Orlando to compete in the International Small Fry Tournament held over Easter at Disney’s Wide World of Sports.  Highwood Heat (top varsity team) won three straight International Championships in 1997, 1998 and 1999. 

Camp players are divided into two groups shown below.  A fee of $250 will include 6 weeks of instructional camp, Highwood Small Fry Camp T-Shirt and Shorts, and a Highwood Small Fry basketball.

 The Highwood Small Fry Advanced Skills Fundamental Camp will be held on Saturday afternoons from October 13 through November 17, at the Highland Park High School (433 Vine Ave., Highland Park, IL).

Varsity Camp from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.

Includes all 11 and 12 year olds, plus former team players & Camp participants from last year.

 

Rookie Camp from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.

9 and 10 year olds new to this Highwood Small Fry experience.

More advance newcomers will be evaluated and possibly moved to the Varsity Camp.

 NOTE: Small Fry AGE is based on player’s age on September 1, 2007.

Tryouts for our traveling teams, by invitation only, will be November 30, December 1 & 2, held at the Highwood Recreation Center.  Player selected to tryout will be posted on the website after the last camp on November 17th.  Please select “Tryout Information” for more details.
